Please join us this summer for a 3-Day In-Person Retreat with Glen Velez and Yousif Sheronick.  The Retreat is open to all levels.  Beginners are encouraged to attend!

What to Expect:

• The Retreat will be based around frame drumming in the “Glen Velez Style” which is now widely used around the world.  Instruments will include frame drum, riq and shakers.
   
• We will explore frame drumming from different perspectives, using source material from the South Italian, South Indian, Central Asian and Arabic traditions.
   
• Basic sound production is covered along with exercises to encourage flowing movement.   With drum/rhythm language employed, we will discover engaging rhythmic phrasings that help develop a strong musical mind.  
   
• We will show techniques on Riq, (the Middle Eastern tambourine) which facilitate playing the important Arabic rhythms such as Baladi, Saidi and Masmoudi along with the traditional variations on these rhythms. This very dramatic and colorful instrument gives the frame drummer access to a huge dynamic range.
   
• Glen will introduce his shaker/caxixi technique which pairs naturally with any frame drum.
   
• We specifically encourage individual creativity to flourish by giving all students free time to create new compositions in a small group setting.
   
• The retreat will conclude with participants performing 

Tentative Daily Itinerary:

• 10am to 1pm  (teaching sessions)
• 3pm to 6pm  (teaching sessions)

• Water, Tea, Coffee and Lite Snacks throughout the day

Cost: 

•  $1400 for all 3 days including meals.  

Travel and Accommodation Are Not Included.
